PNGs store up to 16.7 million colors, but most images actually use only a few hundred distinguishable ones. This tool quantizes your image to an optimized 256-color palette (the technique behind TinyPNG-style compressors), typically shrinking files by 60-80% while keeping full transparency and edges that look identical to the eye. Screenshots, logos, UI graphics and illustrations compress spectacularly well. Choose a stronger level for even smaller files, or lossless mode to re-pack the file without changing a single pixel — and if the result would ever be bigger than your original, we keep the original automatically.

FAQ

Will transparency be preserved?
Yes — alpha transparency survives quantization fully, including soft shadows and rounded corners. The palette includes transparent and semi-transparent entries.
Will I see a quality difference?
For screenshots, logos and graphics — almost never at 256 colors. Photos with smooth gradients may show slight banding at stronger levels; try Smart first, it's the best balance.
How is this different from Compress JPG?
JPG compression re-encodes with lossy DCT quality; PNG compression reduces the color palette. PNG stays sharp-edged and transparent — ideal for graphics, while JPG suits photos.
